General Motors launch six new cars in 2011

Kary Slym, CEO of General Motors India said that GM is going to launch six new vehicles next year with high investment of $ 500 million through the duration of two years as GM is looking forward to tap the demands in rapidly increasing domestic market.



Slym said that General Motors will increase its dealer network in India. Currently General Motors has a dealer network of 211 in India which it will increase upto 240 by the end of this year. Currently General Motors is offers eight cars in India : Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Beat, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Aveo-U-VA, Chevrolet Optra Magnum, Chevrolet Tavera Neo 2, Chevrolet Captiva and Chevrolet Cruze.

India is the third largest economy in Asia and automobile market here is on boom and due to this the global automakers like GM, Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen and Ford are coming in with vast range of new models and high investment amounts. Kary Slym said that the company will raise the prices of its vehicle in January due to hike in costs of raw material. Its hatchback model Chevrolet Beat has been one of the most selling hatchbacks cars in India.

General Motors Corporation came into existence in 1908 and currently it is one of the largest car manufactures in India. GM came into existence in India in 1994 as a 50-50 joint venture unit with Birla group but later on it became a fully own subsidiary of its parent company. This global automarker has its manufacturing unit in more than 30 countries. Globally General Motors has got many renowned brands like Chevrolet, GMC, Opel, Holden, Cadillac, Buich and Oldsmobile. In India it has got its plant near Vadodra which was originally built by Hindustan Motors.

Upcoming cars of Chevrolet include Chevrolet Volt, Chevrolet Camero, Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet Lumina, Chevrolet Sail, Chevrolet Orlando and Chevrolet M300. With the addition of 6 cars in India, Chevrolet would get a larger chunk of the overall domestic market share.
